Chicago police 7th District officers were attempting a traffic stop when someone opened fire, interim police Supt. Fred Waller told reporters at the scene. It’s unclear who fired the shots or how many were fired, Waller said.
The officer was shot in the left hand and is “in good spirits,” Waller said. His parents are with him at the hospital.
The subject of the traffic stop fled the scene and remains at-large.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which oversees police-involved shootings, is investigating.
No other details were immediately available.
